HOW TO DRAW AN INTERMEDIATE SPIRAL Find a small cylindrical object, like a vitamin bottle or thread spool etc. about an inch to two inches in diameter. Find 12 to 18 inches of string or other similar material, ribbon etc. Fasten string onto base of spool using tape, glue, slit or staple etc. Make a small knotted loop in the end around pencil or other drawing pen. Wind up the string snuggly and evenly around the spool. Line up pencil with beginning point on paper, while spool is on center mark. Hold spool from slipping and draw spiral outwards as it unwraps, while passing under hand, hang onto spool ! You will see a fine intermediate spiral that is useful for many designs. Using a slightly larger spool rapidly increases the diameter of the spiral. With careful selection of spool diameter you can make spiral to desired scale drawing. This same technique can be used to layout spirals on the ground or other large objects. NAUTILUS SPIRAL & GOLDEN RECTANGLES
